Alissa Anderson bio

Alissa Anderson was born in 1978 in Wakefield, Massachusetts. She graduated from Smith College in 2000 with a B.A. in Sociology and Photography. Her photos have been shown in a variety of places including Triple Base Gallery, Adobe Books, Blackbird Space, and New Langton Arts in San Francisco; New Image Art in LA; and Andrew Kreps Gallery in New York. She has heavily documented the contemporary San Francisco music scene and her images have graced records by Devendra Banhart, Joanna Newsom, and The Coachwhips. Her portraits of musicians have been published in The New York Times, SPIN, RES, SOMA, and XLR8R. Alissa also produces a line of recycled clothing and accessories called “m i t t e n m a k e r” that has been included in exhibitions at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts and California College of the Arts, in addition to being featured in local fashion shows, sample sales, and boutiques. In 2005, Alissa was featured as a “Style Icon” in Venus magazine. Alissa has played cello, flute, and percussion as a member of the band Vetiver for the past 5 years and her photographs are featured in their new record To Find Me Gone.
